On our way to Lake Taupo stopped at Wai O Tapu to see Lady Knox geyser and all the hot water springs. Smelt of sulphur!
View of Lake Rotorua this morning.
Visited the buried village. 1886 there was a massive eruption killing 120 people from Tarawera volcano. The village of Te Wairoa was buried. We then walked to the Wairere falls.
In Rotorua we went to the Redwood forrest for a walk high up on suspension bridges and platforms. Magical at night with the illuminations.
We had a 90 minute tour of Waitomo caves on our way to Rotorua, home of thousands of glowworms.
Chis and Delwyn have a beautiful garden, full of flowers and artworks, the majority of which they have made themselves.
The Winter Gardens in Auckland and also the silver fern which is on the New Zealand flag.
We are now staying with Chris and Delwyn in Murawai. Chris is Russell’s cousin and a musician. They held a big family party for us!
Walked around the Karangahake gorge, an area of previous gold mining.
